Speak is the story of a girl who was taken advantage of, scared beyond belief and did what she thought was right. Ending up a year of hell for her at the beginning of year nine.

Speak is a young adult book with sensitive but real life topics. Dark topics don’t generally make funny and happy books but the author stitched some comedy in the words. This makes it much easier to relate to her, and just all the trouble she goes through; we also feel much more sympathetic to her. She is not just some girl who complains about what happens but actually tries to deal with it.  I just wanted to reach in the pages and give her a hug.

The author perfectly captures the high school cliques; the struggles of Melinda’s life after this problem and how she faces it. This book has won three awards and I highly recommend it to anyone who wants a very good book to read.
